Bashkir State Medical University was established in 1909 in Ufa, Russia, and aims to successfully train specialists in healthcare, science and pedagogy in Russia. Ufa is the capital and largest city of Bashkortostan in Russia.There are five main faculties at the university: dentistry, general medicine, pharmacy, pediatrics, and preventative medicine and biology.Undergraduate courses are offered in all five main areas, ranging in duration from four-years with the biology course, to six-years with general medicine, pediatrics and preventative medicine. There are over 10,000 medical students at the university, 2,000 of which are international.The university offers postgraduate training in the form of residency and PhD courses, ranging from two to four years. All postgraduate courses are taken in Russian language. The university has a cell culture laboratory and a central research laboratory, where both staff and students conduct research on the latest medical techniques and medicines, aiming to advance the field. There is also a dental clinic and medical clinic on site, where students learn and the local population can receive medical assistance.Students can participate in a range of extra-curricular activities on campus, including sports such as basketball, volleyball, chess, mountain skiing and boxing. There’s also many social clubs where students can develop their interests into skills, including drama, music, volunteering, and graduates trade union. The university also hosts a range of festivals and events for its staff and students throughout the year, including freshman day, Miss and Mr BMSU, new year party and Diwali.
