CUNY New York City College of Technology was set up in 1946 as the New York Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. The college became part of City University of New York (CUNY) in 1964. Seven years later, it merged with the Vorhees Technical Institute - the inheritor of the 1882 founded New York Trade School. The College of Technology is located in the heart of Brooklyn.The College offers baccalaureate, associate degrees and specialised certificates in the technologies of the arts, business, communications, health and engineering, human services and law, technical and occupational education, as well as liberal arts and sciences.A liberal arts and science core curriculum is taught across all degrees. Its three core values are intellectual curiosity, aesthetic appreciation and cultural diversity.Available sports at NYCCT are basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, volleyball, softball and volleyball.Some of the college’s remarkable alumni are Hiroaki Aoki, Olympic wrestler and founder of the Benihana chain of restaurants, abstract expressionist painter Samuel E Vazquez, New York City Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, chef, restaurateur and TV personality Michael Lomonaco, director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Larry R. Felix.
