Program Info

Galapagos is among the world’s most famous travel destinations. Many people dream of spending just a couple of days on that amazing archipelago and we even allow you to spend a couple of weeks on Galapagos Islands while volunteering.

The project is located in the high part of San Cristobal Island which is one of the 4 populated Islands and one of the most beautiful ones with the enough facilities like banks, ATMs, cafes, restaurants, internets, shops, travel agencies and many places where offers for full days tours are always showed.

This Project is focused on the eradication of invasive plants by cutting the blackberries plants and planting some native species by doing so you will also be witness of the huge problem that they are going through with all these plants that are little by little covering huge parts of this Island and killing the local one while also causing problems with some animal species that depend on some other species. Galapagos has a very fragile ecosystem and you will be part of this help.

You will shared the accommodation with some other volunteer with a very common number of volunteers all the time 10 volunteer, you will help one or two times to prepare the meals according to the volunteers schedule, having breakfast at 7:00 am. lunch at 12:00 and dinner at 6:00pm. with enough time to work and rest between meals.

Work Tasks

• Seed collection belonging to the nursery of booking.
• Mixture of substrates, the same that are used to reinforce damaged sites in the area.
• Maintenance of trails.
• The station has a vegetable garden, the same that is used for own consumption plantations, thus avoid consuming products of the continent, as the income of introduced animals such as insects and cockroaches.
• Perform procedures sustainability, which means to be responsible with the environment.
• The Reserve gives the opening and the opportunity to realize projects, the same that are created by volunteers, and may investigate the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands.
• Data Collection.
• Inventareis
• Educational walks in and out of the station.
• Collaboration in the different areas of the station, such as: kitchen, recreation areas etc.

Accommodation

There are 3 different shared volunteer houses in the biological station with rooms for 3 or 4 people with basic accommodation due to the type of reserve where you will be working.

*we would like to point out that in Latin America, especially in remote areas where many of our volunteer work projects take place, Internet and/or cellular radio systems do not always work reliably.
