Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas is a public university located in Moscow, capital of the Russian Federation.The university was established in 1930, and intended to train technical specialists and engineers in order to aid the Soviet Union’s progress towards industrialisation.The university provides both undergraduate and postgraduate courses but primarily focuses on postgraduate study. These are spread out over a large number of departments, with many focusing specifically on oil and gas research including organic and petroleum chemistry, gas chemistry, physical chemistry, industrial ecology and a specialist R&D institute among others.As well as this, the university also provides programmes in economics, mathematics, computer science and numerous law and language programmes.The university’s students not only have access to high-quality research facilities, but are also in a prime location in the Russian capital, Moscow.Moscow is one of the world’s most famous cities, with a remarkable history stretching back hundreds of years. The city is also home to a large number of universities, ensuring a strong student culture and a great many attractions and places to explore. The university is well served by transport links into and around the city, while also maintaining a wide range of recreational facilities of its own.As would be expected of an institution with such a long history, Gubkin Russian State University Oil and Gas has a number of notable alumni, including businessman and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovic and mathematician Edward Frenkel.
