Karadeniz Technical University was established in 1955 in Trabzon, Turkey as the first Turkish university to be established outside of Istanbul and Ankara. In 1966, the university moved to its current campus in Trabzon.There are 12 undergraduate faculties in total: dentistry, pharmacy, letters, science, economics and administrative sciences, architecture, engineering, technology, health sciences, marine science, and medicine. Across this faculty breadth there is a wide range of programmes on offer that include fisheries technologies engineering, surgical medicine, archaeology, and econometrics.In addition, the university has graduate schools offering a range of courses from sea technologies to biology, and gender studies to Black Sea studies across six main schools: forensic science, marine science and technology, natural and applied sciences, Black Sea studies, health sciences, and social sciences.The university provides lots of activities and facilities to enhance a student’s social life on campus, including social, cultural and sporting activities. There’s a Cultural Centre that holds concerts, theatre performances and movie nights. There’s also a Culture and Congress Center that has a museum.For students who enjoy sporting activities, the university has an indoor sports facility where they hold competitions, a stadium with a grass pitch, an Olympic-standard swimming pool to host water sport events. There is also football fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and a squash court. Most of these facilities can be accessed outside of school hours.
