One of three institutions that make up the University System of New Hampshire, Keene State College (KSC) is a public, liberal arts college with a student population of over 5,400 students.The university was originally founded as a teachers college but today there are more than 40 areas of study available from KSC’s three academic schools – the School of Arts & Humanities, the School of Sciences & Social Sciences and the School of Professional & Graduate Studies.Education remains one of the most popular majors, along with Psychology and Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences.The university campus is located in Keene, New Hampshire, a small town that is a hub for the state’s commerce and entertainment. There are two highly rated liberal arts colleges nearby as well as an international music school, while students can enjoy a great range of shops and dining options too.Among the campus facilities are Fiske Hall, the oldest building on campus that has been part of the college since it was founded in 1909. There is also the Mason Library, named after former college president Wallace Edward Mason and home to the Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The newest building is the Media Arts Center, established in 2006 and the location of the Journalism, Communications, Film and Graphic Design departments.Graduates of Keene State College include basketball coach Jim Ferry, Emmy Award-winning writer Fritz Wetherbee, and illustrator Wallace Tripp.
