The Moscow State University of Design and Technology is a public university located in Moscow, Russia.The university can trace its origins back to the late 1920s. An urgent need was identified for highly-skilled engineering personnel to work within the region. The Moscow State University of Design and technology was formed to fulfil this need, alongside more than two dozen new universities in Moscow within the 1930s.It was founded as the Training Institute of Leather Industry and has since expanded the subjects that it offers. Since it's beginnings, the university has undergone a number of name changes before settling on its current name in 1999.Teaching is offered across bachelors and master's level over 23 programmes of higher professional education. Doctoral programmes are available in 10 specialities. Disciplines taught at the university include various branches of science, technology, art studies, economics and biology.The university produces high volumes of research. Research priorities include nanotechnology and nanomaterials, technologies of creation of new generations of space-rockets, aviation and sea techniques, environment monitoring, polymers and composites, nature protection technologies, processing and recycling of technogenic formations and wastes, technologies of deep processing of domestic raw materials and materials in light industry, new materials and chemical technologies and industrial technologies.The university has several laboratories, the centre of information technology, a student's fashion house, courses of pre-university preparation, a library, a museum and several experimental enterprises.Students at the university take part in various Russian and international competitions and many have gone on to win these competitions. These include the International Festival of Fashion and the International Week of Fashion and Art.
