North-Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) was founded in 2012 as a result of three universities merging together. North-Caucasus State Technical University, Stavropol State University, and Pyatigorsk University for Humanities and Technology combined to form NCFU.Academically the university is divided into seven institutes specialising in engineering, humanities, information technologies and telecommunications, law, life science, mathematics and natural science, and oil and gas. Students can choose to study courses in either English or Russian.There are 27 research schools at NCFU within 47 areas. Chemists at the university have been supported by the Russian Research Foundation to investigate the synthesis of substances helping to eliminate different tumours. Researchers have also been successful in developing a technology for manufacturing laser-quality ceramics with a high degree of transparency.The student body consists of approximately 1,500 international students, representing 59 countries between them. The university has established partnerships with leading higher education institutions around the world to facilitate academic exchange programs. It has created seven joint educational programs with Italian, German, and Portuguese universities.The university is located in Stavropol, a city in southwestern Russia. Stavropol is known for its role in processing farm produce from its fertile land. It is particularly involved in meatpacking, wine making, and flour milling. The city is home to one of the biggest city parks in Russia, Victory Park, which spans across 200 hectares. There is also the Stavropol Botanical Garden, which is filled with water lilies and tree-lined paths, perfect for students wanting to take a break from their studies.
