Palacký University Olomouc (UP) is the oldest university in Moravia and the second-oldest in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1573 as a public university led by the Jesuit Order in Olomouc.At first the university only taught theology but has since expanded to eight faculties including arts, law, medicine and dentistry, education, science, physical culture and health sciences. The faculty of health sciences is the youngest having been established in 2008.The faculties are housed in beautiful historical buildings in Olomouc. The university is investing in building new faculties and research buildings.UP Science and Technology Park aims to bridge the gap between the academic-scientific world and private business, to help the university's research projects work in collaboration with private companies. Special attention is paid to fields of nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology.The University Press focuses especially on publishing the scientific and research activities of the university.
