The Polytechnic University of Bari is the youngest of Italy’s three polytechnic universities, having first opened in 1990. It was born out of the former engineering and architecture departments at the University of Bari. As a result, the university focuses primarily on STEM subjects and architecture. The Polytechnic University of Bari offers two, three and five year degree courses to students. It shares its main campus with the University of Bari in the south of the city centre on the Via Orabona street. The polytechnic also has sites in Foggia and Taranto.Recent developments have included the construction of a €1.5 million student centre, which has 244 study places across its two floors. There are also dedicated spots to relax when taking a break from studying. The university has also recently opened an on campus gymnasium, increasing the number of sports activities on offer.Bari provides a great backdrop for studying. The food is cheap, but tasty. This is particularly true of the seafood, thanks to the city’s location on the Italian coast. On top of the polytechnic’s 10,000 enrolled students, there are a further 60,000 at the University of Bari meaning students are well represented in city life.Bari is known for its mix of Italian and Middle Eastern influence. It is full of narrow streets and alleyways and buzzing bars and restaurants. The city is the second most important economic centre in southern Italy. The institution partners with several foreign partners so students can gain a diploma at the University of Bari, as well as a master of science from their home university.
