Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University is a major higher education institution in south central Russia.Founded in 1939 as a state teacher training institute, it earned university status in 1995. Today, the university teaches across a range of subjects and has a fast growing scientific research base.More than 5,500 students are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and the university has an alumni network representing 56 regions of Russia and 26 countries globally.The university teaches predominantly across social sciences and linguistics, but also offers courses in business and tourism, politics and law among others.Various scientific research and international conferences are held at the university through the year.The university also offers a popular Russian language summer school to non-native speakers over two or four weeks.Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University prides itself on nurturing creativity among its student community, and students are involved in organising a number of festivals and shows through the year. The student club on campus also offers more than 30 extracurricular interest groups including music, a club for classic art lovers, poetry and dance groups.The university campus itself comprises 10 main buildings, as well as five student dormitories, a conference centre and numerous laboratories. Other on-site facilities include a number of sports halls and green spaces for sport and leisure, a multi-media language centre and a television studio.
