Founded in 1865, the Russian State Agrarian University- Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy is the oldest agrarian university in Russia. It was originally established as the Petrovskaya Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, but in 2005 it was given the name it has today.The university is located in Moscow, Russia’s capital and most populous city.There are five faculties at the university: agronomy and biotechnology, education and humanities, animal science and biology, soil science, agricultural chemistry and ecology, horticulture and landscape engineering, and food technology. There are also three institutes: Institute of Amelioration, Water Management and Construction, Institute of Economics and Management in Agribusiness, and the Institute of Engineering and Energy. Each faculty and institute offers a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.The university’s campus is home to a number of museums that are open to students, lecturers and members of the local community. The Museum of Minerals and Geology was founded in 1867 and currently contains more than 12,000 samples of fossils and meteorites. The Horse Breeding Museum is the largest in the world with over 3,000 pieces of equestrian art for educational and aesthetic purposes.
