Located in Bethany, Oklahoma, Southern Nazarene University (SNU) is a liberal arts college with a strong Christian ethos. With a founding date in 1899, through almost a century of mergers SNU came to be the primary Nazarene college in the American Southwest, and the town of Bethany itself was founded in 1909 by followers of the church.There over sixty undergraduate majors offered at SNU, in the fields of social sciences, the arts, and professional studies. There are also eight master’s programmes available, including an MBA in business administration and an MA in Theology. Adult studies are offered online or for one night a week of study in either Bethany or SNU’s affiliate campus in Tulsa.The four year biology programme offers a semester abroad opportunity at the Quetzal Education Research Centre in Costa Rica .SNU places itself as a residential campus, and contains six accommodation complexes in both gendered and co-ed halls. Orientation programmes are offered to students under the age of 23, and comprise of a five day course allowing students to learn about the facilities and day to day experience of study at SNU.Athletics teams at SNU are known as the Crimson Storm, and compete in the NCAA Division II. There are eight men’s sports programmes, including baseball and golf, and ten women’s, including soccer and volleyball. As well as providing facilities for competitive teams, the SNU Equestrian Centre offers academic courses such as Equine Anatomy and Introduction to Equine Studies.Alumni of SNU include congressman Kenny Marchant, writer Ryan Daniel Dobson, and basketball player Angelo Cruz. The motto of SNU is ‘Character, Culture, Christ’.
