Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) is the only public university operated by the metropolitan government of Tokyo. With origins dating back to 1929, TMU was formed by integrating three metropolitan universities and one junior college: Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences and Tokyo Metropolitan college.There are now seven faculties offering a variety of undergraduate courses, including: humanities and social sciences, law, economics and business administration, science, urban environmental sciences, system design and health sciences. In addition, there are a further seven graduate schools.TMU is made up of five separate campuses offering a wide range of facilities for students to use including: a computer centre, science and technology research facilities, a research station and a library.There are sports facilities including a gymnasium, a two-storied building equipped with three basketball courts, a heated indoor pool, a Judo hall, a training room, a running track, and men's and women's changing rooms.In addition, there are outdoor facilities including six tennis courts, a baseball field, an athletics track and field, a ball game ground, an archery hall, golf practice ranges, and a running track.TMU has also established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad.Universities include the University of Malaya (Malaysia), Boston University (US) and National Taiwan Normal University (Taiwan).
