Ulyanovsk State University is a public research university located in the city of Ulyanovsk, on the banks of the Volga River in Ulyanovsk Oblast region, Russia.Ulyanovsk is around 44 miles east of Moscow and has a population of roughly 620,000.Established in 1988, the uiiversity was one of the first Russian institutions to reform its qualifications in line with the Bologna process of standardising bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. With 16,000 students enrolled across six internal colleges, Ulyanovsk State University is now one of the largest higher education providers in the region.The subjects taught are vast and include medicine, economics, mathematics, law, ecology, arts and humanities, as well an MBA in international business and finance. Students can choose from 77 subjects at undergraduate level, 76 postgraduate courses and 37 medical internships at the university’s medical residency programmes. Part-time degrees and distance learning options are also available.Learning is split across six faculties, including Russian-American, Russian-German, and culture and arts, and three institutes of economics and business, medicine and ecology, and law and public service.The university has a strong research base across all its academic institutes and faculties, with a special focus on nuclear power engineering, laser and nanotechnologies, microelectronics among others. Researchers have also participated in an anti-tobacco research campaign launched by the European Respiratory Society.The university prides itself on its international partnerships, including one longstanding agreement with the German-Russian Friendship Society, based in Krefeld, Germany. German partners have historically provided financial and technical support to the university, while the Russian institution provides translation services. Some student exchange programmes operate between the two countries.
