UET Lahore was founded in 1921 as Mughalpura Technical College and went through a number of incarnations before being named UET in 1972.The university operates over five campuses within the Punjab region, with the main site in Lahore, and links to 23 research centres. The student population numbers over 11,000 across undergraduate, master's and PhD disciplines.UET offers 92 STEM courses within the faculties of architecture and planning; business and management; chemical, mineral and metallurgical Engineering; civil engineering; earth sciences and engineering; electrical engineering; mechanical engineering and natural sciences; humanities and Islamic studies.The university is linked to 42 international institutions including a number of UK universities (University of Manchester, University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, the University of Bedfordshire, and Queen Mary University, London among others) as well as other technological universities, such as the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in China.On the research side, Huawei, Cavium Networks, Microsoft and MontaVista are among the companies who have funded UET.Facilities for students include the National Library of Engineering Sciences, the biggest of its kind in the country and comprising of more than 1,00,000 books, 25,000 journals, 5,000 theses and 1,500 CDs. As well as a number of societies, UET has a number of facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a gymnasium and a stadium.Notable among its diverse alumni include a number of academics now teaching abroad and Parvez Butt, nuclear engineer and former chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), singer and musician Jarward Ahmad and actor Sam Khan.
