William Penn University is a private liberal arts institution in Oskaloosa, Iowa, US. It was established in 1873 by the Society of Friends of the Quaker communities with which it is still associated. Its first graduate was a woman - a radical act for the 19th century.The university’s mission, as expressed on their website, is to provide “an educational experience with a focus on leadership, technology, and the Quaker principles of simplicity, peace-making, integrity, community and equality”.The institution has a 15 to one student to faculty ratio.Its intramural sports teams participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, track and field, wrestling, competitive cheerleading, competitive dance, softball and volleyball.Activities on campus are coordinated by the Programming Activities for Students by Students (PASS).Some of the notable alumni are award-winning American harpist Elaine Christy, academic and philosopher Boyd Henry Bode, photographer Dulah Marie Evans, American football players Wilbur Young and Damon Harrison, author D. Elton Trueblood, Republican politician Rob Taylor and American economist Paul McCracken.
