The Yuri Gagarin State Technical University was founded in 1930 as the Saratov Automobile and Road Institute, but was renamed in 2011 in honour of the first man to fly into outer space, Yuri Gagarin. The university is located in Saratov, Russia.Degree programmes at the university are designed to prepare engineers of a high standard to enhance Russian and world economies after university. Each programme undergoes appraisal by a community of professionals. Based on their academic excellence and social activities participation, students can be given the opportunity to study abroad in universities across the world.Degree programmes are offered at bachelor, master and postgraduate levels. Undergraduate bachelor degree programmes of a four-year duration are offered to students across eight institutes: applied information technologies and communication; electronic engineering and instrumentation; mechanical engineering and materials science; physics and technology; engineering and transport systems; urban planning, architecture and civil engineering; social and industrial management; and technology.Across these institutes, students have a breadth of programme choice from psychology to oil and gas production, and software engineering to radio engineering.At Yuri Gagarin State, there’s lots of extracurricular activities for students to enjoy during their downtime. There’s volunteering activities and student government projects, as well as activities in creative arts, activism and sport. The university has a stadium with a football field, five gymnasiums, a fitness centre, skiing lodge and skating rink. Student clubs include break dance, historic club, climbing, puppet theatre and technical club, where students create buggy’s and radio-controlled cars to showcase their talents.
